The journey of life can be hard. Sometimes the bumps in the road are just minor annoyances we can absorb and keep moving forward. Other times they are more severe, even life-altering, and we need help. That’s where Mike comes in. He views counseling as a life-on-life collaborative journey of hope and solidarity. Together you will work together to discover what healing, health, and wholeness can look like for you. From general mental health concerns to trauma and PTSD, Mike would be honored to come alongside you.
Mike does this through approaches that are focused on you and your needs and driven by your therapeutic goals. He uses a combination of modalities to help you which include: Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Narrative Therapy, Family Systems Therapy (FST), the Gottman Method, and attachment-style parenting. Mike graduated from Tyndale University with an MDiv in Clinical Counselling, is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), and is a registered member of the Ontario Association of Mental Health Professionals (OAMHP).
Mike has an extensive background in walking alongside people who are incarcerated, impoverished, homeless, and struggling with addiction. Additionally, Mike has worked with many couples at various stages of their relationship, helping them work through issues such as communication, finances, parenting, addiction, infidelity, trauma, and PTSD. For those wishing to engage in therapy through a faith-based lens, Mike is more than comfortable to offer this as well, at your request.
Mike believes that the human person is composed of three parts, the physical self, the psychological self, and the spiritual self. It is important to consider your therapeutic journey through multiple lenses, which may include the incorporation of treatments and practitioners beyond psychotherapy. Given that our challenges are often multifaceted, our approach to treatment should be as well.
Thomas Jefferson is credited with saying, “If you want something you’ve never had, you must be willing to do something you’ve never done.” So, what is it you want?
